I've been playing the handpan for over four years. I'm an avid handpan playing technique freak; I love discovering, developing, and utilizing all the technical possibilities on the handpan. Emotionality and playing technique are not mutually exclusive; quite the opposite: the more freely I can move in terms of my playing technique, the more exuberantly I can dance across the pan without resorting to mere acrobatics, the more differentiated and authentically I can allow emotions to flow through my instrument. All forms of vibrancy are possible: from large, calm arcs of tension that unfold into meditative spaces to ecstatically vibrating grooves.
